Bedfordshire Local Emergency Volunteers Executive Committee (BLEVEC)

BLEVEC has been at the heart of co-ordinating Bedfordshire’s emergency response to Covid-19 and providing vital support to the most vulnerable people in our community during this challenging time.

BLEVEC is a local partnership of charities, community groups and volunteers who work together as part of the Bedfordshire and Luton Local Resilience Forum (BLRF) to prepare for, and respond to, emergencies. BLEVEC’s role is to ensure a coordinated response to an emergency in Bedfordshire from the voluntary sector, public volunteers and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) to best meet the needs of people affected in an emergency.

Volunteers' Week 2020 - A time to say Thank You!

National Volunteers’ Week takes place from 1 - 7 June every year to celebrate volunteering, it's a week dedicated to thanking all volunteers for their time, energy and commitment.

We appreciate that Volunteers' Week this year is slightly different but we would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to everyone who has volunteered their time over the past year.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the hundreds of people across Bedfordshire who have come forward offering to volunteer and support their communities during this uncertain time. It is extremely encouraging and heart-warming to see such a fantastic community response.

Volunteering has been in the spotlight more than ever over the past few months, and on a local and national scale, there has been an unprecedented volunteering response to the Covid-19 crisis. We hope that we can sustain this sense of community spirit and enthusiasm to volunteer moving forward.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this video and thank you to the amazing volunteers who helped put the video together. We hope you enjoy it!

Cheers for the Volunteers!

Volunteers’ Week takes place from 1 - 7 June every year and whilst we appreciate that Volunteers' Week this year will slightly different, we are encouraging organisations and individuals to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to everyone who has volunteered to help and support others in the community during this difficult time.

The Volunteer Centre team at Community Action Bedfordshire would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has come forward offering to support volunteering efforts during Covid-19. This includes everyone who has been helping friends, family, neighbours and the most vulnerable in our community. We would like to say thank you to all those who have volunteered to set up the Covid-19 Mutual Aid groups and continue to provide invaluable support at a local level. We would also like to say thank you to all the charities and community groups who have adapted their services and continue to support their service users and engage with their volunteers.

At Community Action, we continue to work in partnership with Central Bedfordshire Council and other partner organisations to coordinate the Covid-19 volunteering response. Across Bedfordshire we have seen hundreds of people registering their interest to volunteer and support their communities at this uncertain time. It is extremely encouraging and heart-warming to see such a fantastic community response. We recommend that the simplest and most effective thing everyone can do is to look out for their neighbours and offer to help with shopping and other errands. Remember to always stay safe and follow government guidelines when you are volunteering and helping others.

On a local and national scale, there has been an unprecedented volunteering response to the covid-19 crisis and we hope that we can sustain this sense of community spirit and enthusiasm to volunteer moving forward.
